Company overview. Founded in June 2017 by Palmer Luckey (creator of the Oculus Rift VR headset), Trae Stephens, Matt Grimm, Joseph Chen and Brian Schimpf, Anduril Industries is a Costa Mesa, California-based defense technology company seeded by Founders Fund. Its core platform, Lattice, is an AI-driven software system that fuses sensor data from Anduril's own hardware (and third-party systems) to detect, track, and help operators respond to threats. Around Lattice, Anduril has built a broad hardware portfolio: Sentry surveillance towers, the Ghost and Ghost X reconnaissance drones, the Anvil/Interceptor counter-drone quadcopter, the Barracuda family of cruise missiles, the Roadrunner interceptor, the Dive-LD autonomous underwater vehicle and Copperhead torpedo-class munitions, the Ghost Shark autonomous submarine (developed with the Royal Australian Navy), and the YFQ-44A 'Fury' collaborative combat aircraft competing in the U.S. Air Force's CCA program (first flight October 2025). The company has grown via acquisitions (Area-I, Copious Imaging, Dive Technologies, Adranos, Blue Force Technologies, Numerica assets, Klas, American Infrared Solutions). Revenue was reported around $1 billion in 2024. In January 2025 Anduril announced its 'Arsenal' hyperscale manufacturing initiative, with 'Arsenal-1' under construction near Columbus, Ohio. Investment view. Anduril is widely regarded as the leading venture-backed defense-tech company, having raised over $10 billion in total funding, backed by Founders Fund, Andreessen Horowitz, Thrive Capital, General Catalyst, Lux Capital, Valor Equity Partners, D1 Capital Partners and Sands Capital. Its valuation trajectory has been extremely steep (roughly $2B in 2020 to a reported $61B by May 2026, though this most recent figure is contested by other 2026 reporting - see conflicts), reflecting investor enthusiasm for AI-enabled autonomous weapons amid rising global defense spending. CEO Brian Schimpf has publicly and repeatedly said (as recently as a July 9, 2026 CNBC interview) that Anduril is not in a hurry to IPO and can remain private indefinitely given abundant private capital access. Investor fit. Suits accredited or institutional investors seeking concentrated exposure to the AI-enabled defense/autonomous-systems theme via secondary-market or pre-IPO vehicles, comfortable with illiquidity, government-contract concentration risk, and a very high entry valuation. Not suited to investors requiring near-term liquidity, given CEO statements indicating no near-term IPO. SPF access note.
